Geology Program

Special Programs

What makes Stockton's Geology program special is the emphasis on field work.  The following photos show some of our field activities.

Students examine the Virgin River, the erosion, and the Navaho sandstone at Zion Narrows, in Utah.

We hiked through the narrow canyons at Bryce Canyon National Monument, considering the processes of "hoodoo" formation.  Hoodoos are the unusual erosion features visible at Bryce that make the landscape look like the frosting on a wedding cake.

In Iceland, the land of fire and ice, we studied glaciers and the volcanoes.

In Rocky Mountain National Park we studied glacial topography, including this tarn lake.

Here students examine a radial dike that came from the  volcano that produced Ship Rock, visible in the background.
